Aly & AJ
Insomniatic

It’s a blend of sophisticated pop with addictive harmonies that show this sister duo is classy and annoyingly talented.

And it’s hard to believe these two vivacious and gorgeous sisters are still only teenagers. But Aly (18) and AJ (16), sisters from Seattle have already had phenomenal success in America and are hitting us with their vintage ‘Britney’ style pop.

These ladies have managed to write a very grown up pop album that offers both catchy dancing classics and a few emotional ballads. Yes, these girls wrote their album! I know what you’re thinking, but don’t think that. Clearly fresh out of a few relationships, the lyrics show they not only look older than they are, their content is incredibly mature.

And they play guitar, which is something else to add to their portfolio already boasting a successful clothing range, modelling and acting careers. Is there anything they are not dabbling in?

Insomniatic is the second album from the pair who are already established in the industry over in America but it’s their first release in the UK. Potential Break-up Song has a highly addictive sound with blunt and hard-hitting lyrics to complement. It’s bitchy, smug and its just want we want in a break-up track with the girls letting us know, “You’re not living till you’re living with me.”

It’s a well-constructed album with tracks like Potential Break-up Song and Bullseye showing responses to sticky relationships. Like Whoa has real similarities to Girls Aloud and has an edgy feel. All perfect for singing along to. And it doesn’t feel wrong to like them; their maturity comes across in every song making it a fresh and original album.

It’s rare to get a whole album where every track is consistent and that’s especially rare in the wonderful world of pop. But they have pulled it off with an intelligent album you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be caught listening to. It’s got hints of all the good sides of current artists such as Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson, whilst showing a flair for writing.

So give it a go, you will be pleasantly surprised.
