The Blood Brothers
Young Machetes

This is an album of surreal lyricism, off kilter beats and car crash melodies thrown together with a break neck intensity that demands your absolute attention.

Album opener - and contender for song title of the year - Set Fire To The Face On Fire is a storming opening assault to their most mature album to date. Despite this being the Seattle bands’ fifth album and the third on a major label, boundaries are pushed further than their previous efforts have ever dared.

Those not familiar with The Blood Brothers unique style might sum them up as ‘a lot of fucking noise’. Many would draw the same conclusion regardless of how many times they tried to listen.

A vicious blend of hardcore and punk with an almost danceable groove makes the band essential listening for anyone who likes to hear something a little bit different from the norm. Many of the tracks here reveal subtle new elements with each listen.

Laser Life has a catchy feel, grooving along before breaking into a funk to it whereas You’re The Dream Unicorn is straight up violent energy. Young Machetes is in some respects the natural progression to its predecessor Crimes, keyboard melodies are a more prominent feature and the songs feel more structured and less likely to go off on at a tangent.

They may have calmed down a little but they’re still the most exciting band you may never have heard.
