Cobblestone Jazz
23 Seconds

When having a school lesson in Modern Electronic music (as you do), Cobblestone Jazz should be highlighted on the blackboard with several arms coming off it with other musicians and bands connected to them.

The point is, Modern Electronic music owes a lot to these guys. True innovators of modern music however are often overlooked, and Cobblestone Jazz are definitely one of them.

So with that logic I started to listen to this LP. Their last effort Dump Truck was genre bending and is seen as a bit of a milestone, so I was pretty excited about this effort and it starts well enough.

Waiting Room blends a nice groove with a real atmospheric entrance, but the LP really hits its rhythm with Lime in Da Coconut, a terrific tune that if it was written by some of those scene bands doing the rounds then it would be on an episode of Skins in no time.

However by track five (PBD), your mind starts to wonder. It’s not because you don’t like the music, because it is possible to listen to it for quite sometime, but it tends to get repetitive. They often meander instead of getting straight to the point and by Change Your Apesuit it’s clear Cobblestone Jazz have peaked too early.

On other efforts their gift has been blending their instruments and utilising their talents in the best way possible. By the end of 23 Seconds it seems that Cobblestone Jazz have lost a little of their creativity and want the whole thing to be over.

Every artist or band has bad days at the office, and please don’t get me wrong, this album is a pretty good effort. Its just sometimes true innovators leave their innovating hats at home.
