Fountains Of Wayne
Traffic And Weather

And here’s me thinking Fountains of Wayne died a horrible death after Stacy’s Mom. Maybe I just didn’t wish hard enough...

But they’re back with another album full of songs that would perfectly suit any American Pie film moment. ’92 Subaru for example, sounds as if it would suit a bile-inducing moment near the end of the film where everything works out and all the friends are saluting each other across a crowded party. Feel-good shit of the summer.

The entire album is largely uninspired, which gives me a feeling that unless they have another music video starring some barely-clad babe, they’ll do terribly in album sales. This said, Rachel Hunter was definitely a good choice for the MILF part in the last video.

All I’m wondering is who it’s going to be this time – maybe somebody younger. I’d hold out for Jessica Alba, but I don’t think the band is big enough to warrant her attention. I’m still praying though. Let’s get her in a music video. Hell, let’s get her in porn. That’d be mine and many other guys’ dreams come true.

However, I always find it amusing when bands write songs dedicated to weed. Fountains of Wayne are another band to add to that immensely long list of rebellious stoners, with their song Planet of Weed. Just don’t let the kids get ahold of it, they might get the wrong idea and start up a terrible band who sing about pointless shit like drink and drugs despite never having been messed up in their lives.

Typically, Traffic and Weather is another bland pop-rock flash in the pan for the drooling masses. You’ll hardly remember any of it (excluding whichever annoying singles they release) in 6 months’ time unless you’re especially obsessive about the band, but nobody would admit to that. Would they?
