Helen Boulding
Copenhagen

You have to hand it to Boulding’s record label (which was set up by Boulding herself) – this is the perfect song with Valentines looming around the corner.

And not just in the coupled-up sense either. With conviction in every drum beat, this is truly an emotional song.

At the age of 23 after signing a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, Boulding moved to London and started playing gigs at legendary acoustic clubs like the 12 Bar and the Kashmir Club before recently signing to independent label Main Spring.

She was brought up on influences such as John Lennon, Coldplay and Sheryl Crow, and they really shine through. You can forget cheese – the word corny doesn’t even come into it – Copenhagen is just a simple, honest ballad.

It’s melodic, soulful and full of imagery whilst the powerful chorus pulls you in and has you singing the lines “It’s not too late” round the house for the next hour.
This isn’t a doom and gloom track – refreshingly there’s not an emo kid in sight, just an edgy bridge and one funky guitar solo.

With more promises of her songs to echo her real life drama you can expect more emotion fuelled evenings from this soon-to-be-legendary song writer. Enjoyed best by the romantics at heart, probably with a glass of red wine and a roaring fire...
