It’s very easy for me to sit here and say Wallis Bird is simply another KT Tunstall, however that would be the lazy option.
I could say that Wallis Bird has an abundance of talent and uses it sparingly in this song, but again I think I wouldn’t be doing her justice.
What you do get is a songwriting talent who has confidence and ability coming from all angles. If you don’t know who she is yet, then let me introduce her.
Wallis Bird is an Irish folk singer/songwriter from Dublin. Her debut album, Spoons, which was released on 22nd October. Latest single Blossoms in the Street has been lifted from this album.
Although this song isn’t groundbreaking, it has a catchy rhythm in which toe tapping is a must. It also has a rather brilliant chorus to which singing along to comes naturally. However with this in mind, it comes as a surprise to hear her impressive voice come to the fore at the end. It hits you like a freight train and all you can do is stand back and marvel.
Waiting for genuine talent to come along in this day and age can be a frustrating business. Songs like these and talents like these make you realise that it’s all worth it in the end. |
