I was hoping Matt Costa's new song Mr Pitiful wouldn't be just another song about a man who's lost the love of his life, all sad and miserable.
And to my delight it was like listening to someone on a piano having a singsong with a roomful of people.
It was jolly and melodic and quite the opposite to the title. The song is simple and catchy, with an addictive beat. Costa is an American singer-songwriter, but sounds like David Gray meets Chas and Dave.
After one listen you'll also be singing along. His songs have also been featured on CDs alongside Jack Johnson, Money Mark, G.Love and ALO. This is from his second album Unfamiliar Faces, to be released in January 22nd 2008, and can be bought from most major retailers.
His first album Songs We Sing was released in 2006 and had hits with songs such as Cold December and Behind the Moon.
Costa recently played a Live Special Acoustic Session with Jack Johnson, for the BBC Radio 2 Music Club. The BBC filmed & recorded this session in front of small & intimate live studio audience.
Keep an ear out for Costa, I'd bet any money on him being big in 2008.
