Daughtry
It's Not Over
It's not over, but after three minutes and 30 seconds, some of you would wish it had come sooner!

First off, the brief background to Chris Daughtry goes something like this: He plays guitar and sings for a group called Absent Element, before giving American Idol a shot in the fifth season that aired in 2006.

He ended up coming fourth, got subsequently signed to Simon Fullers’ 19 Entertainment, before being given a band and a record deal to show off his talent. All of this after Simon Cowell had originally called him “too robotic”.

You can see the high-waisted man’s point in places on It’s Not Over. It’s an incredibly mainstream stadium rock song that recalls Nickelback’s chart success of years gone by; it’s even possible to hear Someday by Kroeger’s crew in patches.

The main pointer to the chart busting blueprint comes with the stop/start intro to the final verse as Daughtry sings on his own before the band kick back in again. If you wanted the rock world’s equivalent to Westlife’s final verse key change, then there’s your answer.

Chris does have a better voice than Kroeger, and the power he projects deserves some well-deserved praise. The pop-going public will see this as their chance to be ‘rockers’ for a week, whilst it will probably be avoided like foot and mouth disease by the hard rock herd.

Fair play to Chris for setting out for stardom and achieving it. It’s not for everyone, but at least he can say he’s better than Hinder…
