They shoot, they score!
Being labelled with a particular genre these days can be a real pain in the bottom. Some will love you, but there will be the inevitable throng that cant wait for you to fall on your face and burn into oblivion.
Disco Ensemble have a slightly ambiguous name. By name, they should be rubbing shoulders with contemporaries like MSTRKRFT and Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, when in fact they’re more than likely to be found at Give It A Name.
They’ve been compared to At The Drive In and Refused, when in fact in some places they share more than some similarities with Boy Kill Boy than The Shape Of Punk To Come.
The skittish groove throughout is faintly reminiscent of an electro Alkaline Trio, with Miikka Koivisto’s vocals lurching between the jagged edges of stereotyped emo and post-hardcore, but managing to keep his integrity in tact.
The thumping chorus, complete with the infectious cry of “Wont you/Drop dead!” will have you screaming at club DJ’s to play it when you’re out and about to get the dancefloor rocking.
The four-piece Finns have managed to make a track that could have hailed from anywhere in the western hemisphere. For that, they should be praised. Their genre on the other hand, is up to you. |
