It’s impossible to listen to the instantly catchy electro intro of We Are Rockstars without nodding your head. By the time drums kick in, you’ll be moving your shoulders and wondering why you’ve lost all control of bodily movement.
And as the synths get louder and more distorted alongside a frantic cowbell, it becomes clear that Does It Offend You, Yeah? have released an absolute gem.
Hitting the 25-second mark, this latest offering is bashed around by a new batch of the heavy bass-laden tune, and by now the only place you want to be is on a crowded dance floor with neon lights and sweaty bodies, not knowing whether to mosh or imitate a robot.
This dance confusion illustrates perfectly the diversity of the NME tour favourites, and this single contrasts a head-banging, chaotic sound with a more relaxed, high-pitched keyboard melody.
After a couple of ‘Yeah’s interspersed throughout the heavy electronic introduction, the song glides into a slightly more chilled-out verse, lyrically catchy with lines like ‘You're all rock stars now in a network town / There’s no place to go…’
We Are Rockstars jerks back to life again with another round from the cowbell, and carries on brilliantly as an upbeat indie-dance tune, only a lot meatier.
Regardless of the bands name, We Are Rockstars most definitely isn’t offensive… it’s brilliant!
