Having only formed in May 2007, The Rascals have made a big impression already and are currently in the middle of a headline tour. Suspicious Wit only goes to justify their success.
Awash with psychedelic guitar, shifting dynamics and strong Scouse vocals, Suspicious Wit creates a dark, almost ominous sound. The song is about a girl that vocalist/guitarist Miles Kane met whom he tried to meet up with on several occasions. However, he had to cancel every planned rendezvous due to different situations occurring and the song reflects her witty suspicions about his excuses.
The accented vocals reflect the distrust felt by the girl and compares their conversations to “the game of chess for the knighthood”. The verse carefully creeps along until we burst into the Kasabian-esque chorus. The drawn out, airy vocals are supported by a powerful guitar riff that leaves you wanting to smash your foot down to every beat.
Suspicious Wit is thrifty, forceful and leaves you with a taste for more. With such a good first single, it’s hard to find reasons why these guys couldn’t go far. It’s safe to suspect that we will see a lot more of the Rascals in 2008.
After their hugely successful EP, the Rascals eagerly anticipated album is due for release in June.
