“Five lads walk on stage and funkin’ ‘ave it!” – Liam Gallagher
Nothing short of a British rock institution, Oasis have been producing the goods on stage for more than a decade, and now they invite you to go behind the scenes.
Lord Don’t Slow Me Down covers the bands’ yearlong, worldwide Don’t Believe the Truth tour and all the antics that came with it. An hour and half long this is no normal rockumentary as it has you laughing, singing and air-guitaring throughout.
As the tour begins at the historic Astoria venue in London, everything is as you expect with one of rocks greatest bands but as the group and its entourage, including protégés Kasabian - who are in the film as much as Oasis themselves - venture away from the British Isles you get a far greater impression of what life is like for the Gallagher brothers +2.
From meeting Girls Aloud and sorting them out for tickets, to Liam’s birthday party (involving singing midgets) everything is seamlessly wrapped around onstage footage and you’re never short of entertainment. The brothers are on great form with their views on others in the entertainment industry too.
According to Liam Tom Cruise, who he’s never met, is a ‘little shit’ and Charlotte Church should be pushed off a cliff, something he latter didn’t do when meeting her at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
Other highlights include a Japanese Beetles tribute act performing at their very own Abbey Road and Noel telling some star struck kids backstage to “get a drink and make yourselves at home”.
But for a few select clips the whole thing is shot in black and white but gets away with it thanks to the quality of what is being filmed, all be it by a small handheld camera. It’s these things though that put this film above the other generic music DVD’s out there at the moment.
It must also be pointed out that you get the full City of Manchester Stadium gig on a separate disc plus a band commentary on the documentary itself giving you a good 4 hours of viewing pleasure.
This really is a must buy for Oasis fans, it’s quality viewing on both discs and shows that they’re not down and out just yet. |
