Brace yourself for QI - The B Series: all twelve episodes neatly packed onto DVD and frankly, it’s blooming brilliant!
"Through some random act or a spot of brilliance" comes Stephen Fry and his barrage of guests; answering questions like: “Does the Pope eat beaver?” “What colour was the sky in Ancient Greece?” And “What can you see if you look from the other side of a rainbow?” You can see where this is going.
For those unaware of the phenomenon that is Quite Interesting, the thirty-minute question show brings in both unusual and random trivia all neatly concluded by the genius that is Stephen Fry. Just for added comedy comes in guests such as Alan Davies, Bill Bailey, Jimmy Carr, Linda Smith and Jeremy Clarkson to name a few.
The host calculates a points system per person, with a winner being revealed at the end. Points are rewarded and deducted for good, random, stupid and or completely unbelievable answers.
This series takes on the letter B and provides a tirade of arguably irrelevant information on topics such as bugs, Berlin, beetles, bands, big bangs, barnacles and anything in between. But lets be honest, it’s pretty difficult to even tip the iceberg of everything discussed in one episode, let alone series.
What makes QI is its ingenious balance of comedy and intellectual information, which often answers daft questions and sheds light on those we were always a little too embarrassed to ask. Small touches include Alan Davies being ridiculed at any given opportunity and being forced to answer with obvious but inaccurate answers.
The majority of guests provide brilliance alongside our poignant host aside from Aneka Rice. Her comments might leave you feeling not only a little embarrassed for her, but also for yourself watching it.
QI has really produced one of the series best yet. In a nutshell, intelligence has never been so entertaining! Great shows like this can only do so much, and with QI we know that it will involve making a series better than the last – and we can’t wait!
